Boston-based progressive rock band Elders is back with their new album Omens. Formed in 2006, Elder are a product of the metal underground and a lot of their earliest songs were inspired by the mythical and apocalyptic Conan The Barbarian stories.
Omens stand out from their past projects in a few ways. Mainly because their original three-man line-up has changed. Elder’s founding member and drummer Matt Couto is replaced with Georg Edert. They also have Michael Risberg as their new guitarist. We find the use of a lot of keyboards now in Omens along with some complicated and long riffs.
Given the timing of their release one might wonder if the album was specifically made with the current pandemic in mind – but its not that. Metal, progressive rock and psychedelic rock have always been consumed with notions of the apocalypse and this one does not fall far from it.
