If Ozzy Osbourne is known as the Prince of Darkness, know now that his songs can be made even darker!!! American singer-songwriter and gothic rock / doom metal musician Chelsea Wolfe just made it happen from a candle-lit dark corner of her home during this lockdown when she performed the Ozzy smash-hit “Crazy Train” for a talk show!
Two Minutes to Late Night is a metal-themed talk-show that airs in Youtube for almost two years now. Generally the episodes are filmed at the Saint Vitus venue in Brooklyn. However, that was during the pre-pandemic days – now in the lockdown phase they have moved to a remotely-recorded live-from-home situation.
Under such circumstances, Chelsea Wolfe got together with the talk show’s host Gwarsenio Hall — aka stand-up comic Jordan Olds and the leader of the show’s house band Cave In / Mutoid Man / Old Man Gloom member Stephen Brodsky who delivers some mean doom-filled riffs over her chilling vocals. Ben Chisholm, Dillinger Escape Plan bassist Liam Wilson and Rough Francis drummer Urian Hackney also joined the team.
The opening guitar riff, as most would agree, reminds nothing less than the theme of John Carpenter’s Horror Classic Halloween. The video shows a VHS-tape fuzz-effect which just adds to the eerie yester-year horror feel. Watch the video below:
And here’s the original Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne! Just for you to compare if you feel like.
